Neeraj Santosh Gupta, sought by Ballarshah Police in connection with an attempted murder case, was apprehended in the city by a team from the Crime Branch. Gupta, 26, a resident of Shriram Ward, Gandhi Chowk, Ballarshah, along with two accomplices, allegedly attempted to murder cloth merchant Abhishek Malu using petrol bombs at his shop on July 7. During the incident, Kartik Sakharkar, a salesman at the shop, sustained injuries from the explosion. The Ballarshah Police had registered a case against Gupta under Sections 109, 118, 323(g), 6(2) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 3(a) of the Explosive Substances Act.
Acting on a tip-off, Unit-04 of the Crime Branch intercepted a Renault Duster car at Manewada and apprehended Gupta. Sofia Ayub Khan (35), who was traveling with Gupta, was also detained. She was reported missing since June 29 and was presently residing at Noor Khan’s residence in ‘Ashiyana,’ Pachpaoli.
Following the arrest, the Crime Branch transferred Gupta to the custody of Ballarshah Police.
